Description

This piano concerto by Mozart marks the launch of an ambitious new project at Henle Publishers. Over the coming years, many of the Salzburg master's 23 piano concertos will be published in completely new Urtext editions. And renowned pianist András Schiff is collaborating with us on this endeavor.

Schiff's piano reductions are tailored for amateur rather than professional pianists. His exquisitely fine-tuned fingerings for Mozart's solo part are inspiring, and where Mozart's original cadenzas are missing, Schiff's stylistically perfected ones have been included. In doing so, we aim to set a new standard.

The quality of these editions is guaranteed not only by Schiff, but also by the Mozart scholars to whom Henle has entrusted their Urtext work. Each concerto is edited by a specialist, following predetermined editorial guidelines. The primary source has been Mozart's own handwritten scores, which in some cases had not been available for previous editions. Additionally, early part copies and printed materials have been consulted, as they contain important information about the musical text.

This lavish new edition is a co-production with Breitkopf & Härtel. It includes not only attractive and affordable piano reductions, but also an Urtext conductor's score, orchestral parts, and a study score. This comprehensive set allows the music to be experienced in multiple ways - from studying the definitive Urtext solo part, to playing with a second pianist using the superb reduction, to conducting and performing with the full orchestral materials.
