Description

Composed at the end of 1785, Mozart's Piano Concerto in E-flat major forms a triumvirate with his two famous concerti in A major (K. 488) and C minor (K. 491), which he completed the following March. What distinguishes these works is Mozart's innovative use of clarinets in the orchestra - an unprecedented move that had a particularly impressive effect in the lyrical slow sections of the E-flat major concerto, which was well received at its premiere. In fact, Mozart's father Leopold reported that the composer "had to repeat" the Andante movement. While this concerto is often overshadowed by its more famous counterparts, we are proud to issue a new study edition, complete with cadenzas and fingerings by the acclaimed Swiss pianist Alexander Lonquich.
