Description

Alexander Scriabin occupied a unique position among the Russian piano composers around the turn of the 20th century. Even in his early works, he ventured beyond the Chopinesque traditions favored by his contemporaries Glazunov and Rachmaninoff. This deviation was evident in his numerous preludes, including the 24 preludes of Op. 11, which covered all major and minor keys. While adhering to the strict circle of fifths structure, Scriabin ensured that "each prelude is a small, self-contained composition, independent of the others." This Henle Urtext edition, informed by comparisons of the autograph and 1897 first edition, has corrected numerous errors and inaccuracies. Ultimately, this grandiose work deserves a place in the repertoire of every pianist.
