Description
In the summer of 1891, Scriabin injured his right hand from overexertion. As a result, he focused on developing his left-hand technique and composed his Prélude et Nocturne, Op. 9, in 1894. These pieces were published the following year and quickly gained immense popularity. By 1906, they had become so beloved in America that Scriabin reported excitedly from New York: "The publisher here has reprinted my left-hand nocturne, and thousands of copies have been sold. [...] I am immensely popular!"
