Description
Fauré's Elégie, initially intended as the slow movement of a Cello Sonata, was composed in 1880, embodying a sense of melancholy. The Sicilienne, which originated as an orchestral piece in 1893, was later arranged for cello and piano by Fauré in 1898, ultimately becoming part of his renowned incidental music for Maurice Maeterlinck's play, Pelléas et Mélisande. This Urtext edition, curated by prominent French music scholar Roy Howat, features a preface, commentary, and a meticulously presented score, including both piano accompaniment and a separate cello part.
