Description
The 1886 Violin Sonata by Franck was warmly received by both critics and the public from the outset, unlike many of his other late works. It was dedicated to Eugène Ysaÿe, a renowned violinist of the time who was captivated by the piece, promising "I will play this masterpiece wherever I can find an artistically-minded pianist." The sonata's popularity has endured to the present day, prompting Henle to revise their previous edition to reflect the latest research.
This revised edition is based on the first printed version, which differs significantly from Franck's autograph manuscript. It was discovered that Franck was actively involved in reviewing the proofs for the original publication. Additionally, the violin part of Henle's new edition incorporates markings by Yehudi Menuhin, and Daniel Hope has made further revisions to the musical text.
