Franck composed the majority of his acclaimed works late in his career. His 1884 piano cycle, a nearly 20-minute masterpiece, remains his most celebrated keyboard piece and is a staple of concert programs even today. Despite Franck's virtuosic piano skills, his musical foundation was in organ music, which also heavily influenced his piano compositions.
