Description
Franck's Sonata stands as a prominent piece within the chamber music canon. The newly released Wiener Urtext Edition draws from the original edition, incorporating Franck's ultimate revisions. Discrepancies between the piano score and the solo part arise from notes made by the violinist Eugène Ysaÿe, the work's dedicatee, who received it as a wedding gift.
This edition, which is likely sanctioned by Franck, is presented for the first time in an Urtext format. In his preface, Günther Ludwig advocates for a thoughtful and intellectual interpretation of this significant work in the repertoire.
