Bach's harpsichord concerti, extremely popular among pianists, are presumably reworkings of pieces originally written for the violin. Bach demonstrated remarkable ingenuity in transferring the diverse idiosyncrasies of violin technique to the keyboard, resulting in concerti that have become a standard part of most pianists' repertoire. The d minor concerto is perhaps the most popular of these, owing to its jaunty outer movements and forceful solo part. Now, as a prelude to a series of all of Bach's harpsichord concerti, G.
