Description
Bach's wildly popular harpsichord concertos were likely his own transcriptions of earlier solo concertos written for violin or woodwind. The D major Concerto BWV 1054, composed in 1738, was an arrangement of Bach's earlier E major Violin Concerto BWV 1042 - a rare instance where the original model is known. In BWV 1054, Bach masterfully adapted the violin part into a brilliant, idiomatic keyboard work. Its lively, cheerful outer movements also make this concerto one of the highlights of Bach's extensive compositional output. This edition features a highly playable piano reduction of the solo part, prepared by Johannes Umbreit for practical use.
