Description
Bach is believed to have composed his Toccatas during his formative years, specifically between 1707 and 1713. These pieces can be regarded as manifestations of Bach's own "Sturm und Drang" phase. They were not intended to form a cohesive cycle of works but were created as independent compositions at various times. In line with the conventions of this genre, the toccatas highlight virtuosic and improvisational qualities, while also occasionally incorporating recitative elements. Essential to these works is Bach's exceptional command of polyphonic techniques, his lush harmonies, and the boundless creativity that characterizes his music.
