Description
Beethoven composed a total of four overtures for his only opera, "Leonore" (later renamed "Fidelio"). The Leonore Overture No. 2, written in 1805 for the opera's Vienna premiere, is the first in the chronological series. Rather than a formal recapitulation, this overture summarizes key dramatic moments from the opera, culminating in a climactic double fanfare that signals the resolution of the opera's central conflict and leads directly into the coda. This new study edition, featuring a fresh preface, is based on the musical text from the Beethoven Complete Edition.
