Description
In 1803, Beethoven composed his Third Symphony, which is famously known to have been initially dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte. However, three years later, it was published with a dedication to Beethoven's patron, Prince Lobkowitz, and included the title "Sinfonia Eroica" in memory of a "grand Uomo." This title likely reflects the altered political landscape and is thought to refer to Prussian Prince Louis Ferdinand, who perished on the battlefield while fighting against Napoleon. The complete musical text of this renowned heroic symphony is now accessible as a Henle pocket score, accompanied by a preface from the editor Bathia Churgin.
