Description
Chopin composed several cello works, influenced by his friend the renowned cellist Auguste Franchomme. Among them is the Grand Duo Concertant, an opera paraphrase on Meyerbeer's "Robert le Diable," for which Franchomme personally participated in developing the cello part. Chopin also wrote the early Polonaise op. 3 with slow introduction for the cello-playing Polish Prince Radziwill. In these works, Chopin cleverly underscores the cantabile cello melodies with pianistic brilliance, creating a dazzling, energy-laden early masterpiece.
