Description
When Günter Henle founded his Urtext publishing house in 1948, the first work in the catalogue was a two-volume edition of all of Mozart's piano sonatas. These volumes, still bearing the catalogue numbers HN 1 and HN 2, have been revised multiple times over the years to ensure the musical text reflects the latest scholarly research.
Many of Mozart's sonata manuscripts have survived, and for some works he made minor changes to the text before publication. In these cases, the editions present both versions. Detailed information on the source materials and editorial decisions is provided in the preface and critical commentary.
