Description
Like many piano virtuosos of the time, Robert Schumann aspired to present himself to the public as both a pianist and a composer, with his own piano concerto. He had made several early attempts at realizing this ambition.
In the years that followed, Schumann felt increasingly drawn towards a freer formal conception. The sketch of a single-movement "Phantasie" ultimately became the opening movement of his famous work, which is now being published for the first time in a practical Urtext edition. The fingerings for this edition were provided by the renowned pianist Mitsuko Uchida. The score and orchestral material are available from Breitkopf & Härtel.
