Domenico Scarlatti composed an extensive body of 555 harpsichord sonatas. The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) has edited and published a selection of these works. Specifically, pianist and editor Howard Ferguson has prepared 32 of the more accessible Scarlatti sonatas, which have been published in three volumes as part of the Easier Piano Pieces series. These edited versions are tailored for performance on the piano, including added dynamics and articulation markings.

The guitar is the instrument most closely associated with Baroque composer Domenico Scarlatti (1685–1757), after the piano and harpsichord. Many of Scarlatti's keyboard works were influenced by the guitar music of Spain, the country he eventually adopted as his own.
