Description

The guitar is the instrument most closely associated with Baroque composer Domenico Scarlatti (1685–1757), after the piano and harpsichord. Many of Scarlatti's keyboard works were influenced by the guitar music of Spain, the country he eventually adopted as his own.

This collection of Scarlatti arrangements for solo guitar provides an excellent introduction to the composer's music. The ten diverse pieces were carefully selected for their musical character and technical suitability. Arranged in order of increasing difficulty, they showcase the range of skills required for Baroque repertoire, at both intermediate and advanced levels.

The adaptations are stylish and idiomatic, preserving Scarlatti's original ornamentation. The pieces cover core repertoire for Grades 6–8, with several appearing on the ABRSM guitar syllabus. The fingering has been thoughtfully considered, ensuring it is clear and consistent. Comprehensive advice on ornamentation, including full realizations, is also provided.
