Description

Dvořák composed his Terzetto, Op. 74, in 1887, driven by an impromptu urge to create some intimate music. Influenced by nearby violin lessons, he crafted these four brief movements for two violins accompanied by viola within just a few days. Consequently, this Terzetto is not particularly challenging to perform; however, its flowing melodies and lively rhythms encapsulate the essence of Dvořák's artistry. It is no surprise that his publisher, Fritz Simrock, eagerly acquired the work when Dvořák mentioned in 1887 that he was developing "little bagatelles." The manuscript, which contains numerous corrections, clearly illustrates the considerable effort invested in these "little bagatelles." This manuscript also served as the engraver's reference for the first edition. Both sources were utilized for this Urtext edition, providing contemporary musicians with an authentic representation of this musical gem.
