Description
Liszt's "Transcendental Studies" of 1852 stand as unquestionable triumphs of virtuosic piano music, their visionary language and poetic expression marking them as a pivotal milestone of the Romantic era. This set of twelve études represents the composer's extensive revisions to a collection first published in 1827 and 1839. The principal source for this edition was a printed copy of the earlier version, bearing Liszt's numerous handwritten changes. Each piece, including renowned works like "Harmonies du soir" and "Mazeppa", carries its own distinctive title and has entered the concert repertoire less as an étude than as a self-contained tone-poem.
