Description
The Piano Concerto No. 1 in A minor by Camille Saint-Saëns, composed in 1875, was an immediate success despite its unusual form. Structured in two sections, each with two continuous movements, the work corresponds almost perfectly to the "symphonic concerto" model and is one of the composer's most popular concerti. For the 1877 first edition, the renowned composer Gabriel Fauré undertook the piano transcription of the orchestral part, providing an optimal basis for Johannes Umbreit's piano reduction in the first Urtext edition of this work. Continuing Henle's authoritative series of Saint-Saëns' piano concerti, this edition also features fingerings by Pascal Rogé, one of the foremost experts on the composer's piano works.
