Description
Debussy occasionally incorporated contemporary musical trends, such as American ragtime, into his compositions. For example, his piece "The little Negro" from the Children's Corner suite (HN 382) was originally composed for Théodore Lack's 1909 piano method. This work, which is a standard in modern crossover-oriented piano teaching, features a repeated section (measures 22-54) that was added in the 1934 Leduc publishing version. Despite its relative technical simplicity, "The little Negro" remains an effective and impactful piano work.
