Description
In 1894, Johannes Brahms invited the renowned clarinettist Richard Mühlfeld to visit him during his beloved summer retreat in Ischl. Brahms added, "It would be wonderful if you brought your B-flat clarinet, and if you were in no great hurry" - for Brahms had composed two Sonatas, op. 120, which he was eager to rehearse with Mühlfeld.
The private premieres of these sonatas were enthusiastically received, with the press declaring, "The sonatas...are wonderful and will cause a great sensation." Our edition of this work, now a core part of the clarinettist's repertoire, reflects the revisions made in the new Brahms Complete Edition.
