Description
Brahms' sole violin concerto was warmly embraced by his contemporaries and has since become a cornerstone of the violin repertoire. The work bears the imprint of Brahms' fruitful collaboration with violinist Joseph Joachim, who contributed a cadenza.
The composer's challenging original piano reduction has been meticulously simplified for this Urtext edition by Johannes Umbreit. This edition adheres to the musical text of the new Brahms Complete Edition. Additionally, the appendix includes an alternative, previously unpublished version of Joachim's cadenza. Alongside Joachim's original fingerings and bowings, this edition also provides fingering suggestions by violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann.
