Description
The Eight Etudes, Op. 42, by Alexander Scriabin were created during a particularly fruitful period in the composer's life, following years of teaching obligations that had limited his creative output. By 1903, Scriabin was finally able to focus more on composition, leading to the creation of these etudes. Among them, the Etude in C-sharp minor, No. 5, stands out as a remarkable showcase of virtuosity. Scriabin himself regarded it as surpassing even the grandeur of his Third Symphony, which justifies its release as a separate edition alongside the complete collection. For the Henle Urtext edition, both the original publication and the posthumous variants edited by Nikolay Zhilyayev were meticulously analyzed. Additionally, Boris Giltburg's established fingerings offer valuable guidance for pianists tackling this demanding work.
