This historic reference edition features both of Sergei Rachmaninoff's piano sonatas, accompanied by an exceptional CD recording by the acclaimed artist Idil Biret, known for her work with the Naxos label. Biret boasts an impressive discography of over 70 recordings, which includes the complete solo piano works and concertos of composers such as Chopin, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff. A prodigy, she graduated from the Paris Conservatoire at just fifteen, earning three first prizes, and later studied under renowned pianists Alfred Cortot and Wilhelm Kempff, the latter of whom regarded her as his finest student. Her accolades include prestigious awards such as the Lily Boulanger Memorial in Boston, the Harriet Cohen - Dinu Lipatti gold medal in London, and the Chevalier de l'Ordre du Merite in France, among others. The edition contains Sonata No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 28, and Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 36.
