Description
This publication presents the comprehensive orchestral and vocal score of Mozart's Don Giovanni, widely regarded as one of the finest operas ever composed. This edition encompasses all the music that Mozart created for Don Giovanni, including the original version performed in Prague in 1787, as well as subsequent modifications such as Don Ottavio's aria "Dalla sua pace," Elvira's aria (and its transposition to D Major) "Mi tradì quell'alma ingrata," the duet "Per queste tue manine" featuring Zerlina and Leporello, the cuts made in the finale for the first Viennese performance six months later, and the concert ending of the overture.
Editors Georg Schünemann and Kurt Soldan meticulously worked from Mozart's autograph manuscript and early copies produced under his supervision, rectifying numerous errors that had persisted since Mozart's era. An extensive commentary accompanies the score, detailing all ambiguous or contentious aspects encountered by the editors. Additionally, the complete Italian libretto and stage directions by Lorenzo Da Ponte, along with a German translation of the vocal text by Georg Schünemann, are included.
It is important to note that this is not a piano arrangement; it is the full orchestral score. Beyond its evident applications for study, this score serves as an essential companion for anyone listening to the music. It allows the listener or student to maintain a comprehensive understanding of the various elements that constitute this opera.
