Description
When Brahms offered his Hungarian Dances for publication in 1869, he told his astonished publisher that they carried "no opus number." Brahms placed great importance on the fact that he had merely "set" popular Hungarian melodies, rather than composing new works. While this reservation was true, it did not diminish the resounding success of these pieces. The Hungarian Dances are now indisputably among Brahms' most celebrated compositions.
Brahms himself arranged the first 10 dances, originally written for piano four-hands, into a solo piano version. We are now publishing a revised edition of these impressive works as part of the new Brahms Complete Edition. Rolf Koenen's fingerings provide invaluable guidance for mastering these technically complex compositions.
