Description

Rachmaninoff's Études-Tableaux continued the path set out by Chopin and Liszt's concert etudes, presenting the most demanding technical tasks in the form of expressive character pieces. Rachmaninoff originally composed two cycles of nine Études-Tableaux each, but shortly before publishing Opus 33, he removed three of the pieces. Subsequent posthumous editions restored the original set, but in this Urtext edition, we follow Rachmaninoff's intended structure of six pieces. The two remaining etudes that were not originally published are included in an appendix.
