Max Bruch's First Violin Concerto in G minor catapulted its creator to worldwide fame and became a towering masterpiece in the standard repertoire. After decades of popularity, this iconic work is now appearing in a new urtext edition from Henle.

However, Bruch himself was not always thrilled by the concerto's enduring success. "I can't listen to this concerto anymore," he once complained to his publisher Simrock. "Do you suppose I've only written one concerto?"

Despite Bruch's ambivalence, the Violin Concerto has solidified its place in concert halls around the world. Henle's new edition provides not only a meticulous urtext for the solo part, but also a preface revealing the concerto's complex genesis, including revisions made at the suggestion of the renowned violinist Joseph Joachim.
