Description
Fanny Hensel's body of work, comprising over 450 pieces, prominently features songs, which constitute the largest segment of her compositions and were a lifelong focus for her as a composer. Her journey began with her first entry in a composite manuscript at the age of fourteen and culminated with her final piece, completed just a day before her untimely death in May 1847. In collaboration with the esteemed lied singer Juliane Banse, G. Henle Publishers has curated a selection of 24 songs. This collection includes well-known works from her op. 1 and 7, published during her lifetime, such as "Gondellied" and "Warum sind denn die Rosen so blass?", as well as lesser-known pieces and songs from various stages of her creative output that have not been previously published. The Urtext edition draws from autographs, contemporary copies, and first editions, benefiting from the scholarly expertise of American Hensel specialist Stephen Rodgers, who also penned the preface for this edition.
