Description

Encouraged by the success of his "Papillons", Schumann composed his "Intermezzi" op. 4, also known as "longer Papillons", in 1832. Despite the improvisatory style at times, Schumann worked meticulously on this composition, as he noted, "The Intermezzi are going to be something special – each note is going to be weighed up carefully." Schumann's preoccupation with counterpoint at the time is evident, with Bach's influence particularly felt in numbers 1 and 5, which contemporary critics greatly appreciated. This anniversary edition has been revised to reflect the latest scholarly findings and includes an extensive source-critical text.
