The Novelettes arose roughly concurrently with the Kinderszenen and share a largely untroubled mood. In a letter to Clara Wieck, Schumann enthusiastically exclaimed, "I've written such a frightful amount of music for you over the past three weeks - pranks, Egmontian tales, family scenes with fathers, a wedding, in short, extremely engaging things." Given the popularity of this opus, it's no surprise that Henle's thoroughly revised volume is one of their best-selling items. This updated edition provides not only a newly edited musical text, but also a preface with background on the work's genesis and a detailed section of editorial notes.
