Description
The Henle catalogue now offers a version of the three-volume edition of Haydn's piano sonatas without added fingerings. This "pure" Urtext edition allows musicians to study the Classical sonata canon free from fingering suggestions. Volume I contains Haydn's early sonatas, which reflect the spirit of the early Classical period - catchy, fun to play, and often at a moderate level of difficulty, making them essential for modern piano instruction. The authenticity of individual sonatas in this group has been questioned, but the preface by Armin Raab, Scholarly Director of the Joseph Haydn Institute, provides comprehensive information on new findings related to this important topic.
