Description
In 1910, Debussy published his recently composed Préludes, Premier Livre. This work drew on the traditional prelude form, following the example of Chopin. Debussy also characterized his Préludes in a unique way, dispensing with titles and instead providing programmatic directions at the end of each piece. This first volume of Préludes was an immediate success and is still considered the epitome of Debussy's piano artistry. Additionally, some of these more substantial Préludes are accessible even to pianists who are not aspiring concert artists.
