Description

The Viennese violinist Jakob Dont is considered one of the most influential violin pedagogues of the 19th century. He wrote numerous study pieces that have become indispensable classics in the violin pedagogical repertoire. Among his most renowned works are the 24 "Études et Caprices" op. 35, composed between 1840 and 1849. Dont later revised and published this advanced collection of etudes in a definitive anthology in 1880. The "Études et Caprices" quickly gained widespread success, leading to numerous new and heavily reworked editions in the 20th century by renowned violinists such as Carl Flesch, Max Rostal, and Ivan Galamian. Now, G. Henle Publishers' Urtext edition restores access to Dont's original, unadulterated version, complete with his authentic fingerings and bowing suggestions, and presented in impressive, practical graphic quality. World-class violinist and prominent pedagogue Antje Weithaas served as a consultant for this edition, carefully supplementing Dont's original markings.
