Description
Schumann's "Album for the Young" was specifically crafted for children, while "Scenes from Childhood" (Kinderszenen) serves as a nostalgic reflection on childhood intended for adult audiences. Notably, Schumann indicated that the 13 pieces in this collection were composed prior to the assignment of their titles, a characteristic common to many of his character pieces. The scholarly edition by Palmer features a table of recommended tempos derived from early editions and various artists' recorded performances. Additionally, the Alfred Masterwork Library CD Editions pair each remarkable volume with a professionally recorded CD, designed to inspire exceptional artistic interpretations.
