Limited information exists regarding Handel's works based on the poems of Barthold Heinrich Brockes, with their composition estimated to have occurred between 1724 and 1727. The autograph provides no clarity on the titles or the order of the pieces, nor does it specify the instrumentation. Consequently, various options are available for the solo instrument that mirrors the vocal line, with the violin, flute, or oboe being the most probable choices.
