Description
Smetana described these two duets as being in a light style, intended more for home use than concert performance. Despite this, the pieces were popular from the outset - Smetana was able to demand a high price for them and even play off several eager publishers against each other. This is all the more remarkable given that Smetana had been deaf for two years by the time he composed the duets. Though not technically demanding, the duets attract listeners through their joyful character and powerful melodies, memorializing Smetana's beloved Bohemian homeland.
