Description
Alfred Mistowski was a distinguished pianist, violinist, violist, and composer who, after his studies at Trinity College of Music in London and Oxford, became a professor at Trinity, where he notably supported the Trinity Examination system. His compositions include numerous dramatic cantatas, string quartets, symphonies, and concertos, along with a collection of works designed to aid violin students in their exam preparations. Mistowski served as a Trinity examiner, traveling extensively to locations such as India, South Africa, Tasmania, New Zealand, Singapore, and the Straits Islands. Additionally, he held the position of music tutor to the Maharaja of Mysore and conducted the Mysore Palace Orchestra. It is likely that his extensive travels influenced his lively Hornpipe for Violin and Piano, which remains a staple in the Trinity exam repertoire.
