The Lark” stands out as one of the most beloved Russian compositions from the Romantic period, created by Mikhail Glinka, a pivotal figure in the Russian nationalist music movement. Mili Balakirev, a compatriot of Glinka, transformed this poignant melody into a highly virtuosic piano arrangement reminiscent of Liszt's style. This remarkable bravura piece, of moderate duration, is particularly well-suited for encores or recital performances. In the process of developing this new Urtext edition, G. Henle Publishers made significant discoveries, including the rediscovery of Balakirev’s autograph manuscript, previously thought to be lost, along with a revised print copy featuring the composer’s own annotations that confirm the final version. The edition, along with its fingerings, is of exceptional quality, meticulously prepared by renowned Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin.
