Johannes Brahms's earliest surviving original work, the Scherzo, Op. 4 in E-flat minor, was composed in 1851 when he was just 18 years old. This remarkable scherzo, featuring two trios and a coda, stands out as one of Brahms's more substantial pieces for solo piano. The edition of this work by internationally acclaimed concert pianist Joseph Banowetz is particularly noteworthy, as he draws on insights from his teacher, Carl Friedberg, who was a student of Clara Schumann, a close associate of Brahms.
