Spohr: Clarinet Concerto No. 2 in Eb major, Op. 57

Author : Louis Spohr

Description

Louis Spohr’s concertos have been a staple in the clarinet repertoire for a considerable time; however, they have previously been hindered by the absence of dependable editions. To address this issue, G. Henle Publishers is now releasing a critical edition of the Concerto no. 2 in E flat, following its edition of the Concerto no. 1 in c minor (HN 995). This concerto is the only one among Spohr’s four clarinet concertos that is set in a major key, and its lively character and joy of life continue to enchant, particularly in the final movement, "alla polacca." It is astonishing to note that this marks the first-ever Urtext edition of this concerto! For this edition, Ullrich Scheideler has referenced both the original edition from 1822, published in Leipzig, and a significant early manuscript. Additionally, Christoph Sobanski has created a new, practical, and easy-to-play piano arrangement of the orchestral accompaniment. The orchestral parts can be rented from Breitkopf & Härtel.
