Gordon Jacob possessed exceptional expertise in orchestral instruments and their tonal qualities, a fact most clearly demonstrated in his series of concertos for wind instruments. Many of these works, which are particularly well-suited for young musicians, can be found with piano accompaniment as arranged by the composer, while the orchestral parts are available for rental.
