Duport: 21 Etudes for Cello

Author : Jean-Louis Duport

Description

In 1806, the renowned Berlin cellist Jean-Louis Duport opened his seminal work "Essai" by noting that he had been called upon by friends, artists, and aficionados to write about fingerings for the violoncello. Duport's methodology revolutionized cello technique, and the 21 etudes printed in the appendix are still regarded as perhaps the most important studies for aspiring cellists. Modeled after violin etude collections, Henle's new Urtext edition presents Duport's original fingerings and bowings, as well as alternative markings by the celebrated cellist and teacher Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. Additionally, this edition includes a second cello part provided by Duport for accompaniment.
