Felix Alexandre Guilmant, a renowned French composer and organist, produced a substantial body of organ works.
Alexandre Guilmant stands as a prominent figure in the French Romantic organ tradition, primarily composing for the organ. An exception to this focus is the "Morceau symphonique," created in 1902 for the annual trombone class competition at the Paris Conservatoire. This delightful composition quickly became a staple in the trombone repertoire, akin to Saint-Saëns’s "Cavatine" (HN 1119), and is now regarded as a fundamental work in trombone literature. This edition presents the "Morceau symphonique" in its inaugural Urtext format, derived from both the original manuscript and the first published edition. Additionally, we are pleased to include a unique sight-reading piece that Guilmant composed for the same competition.
