Description

Edited by Nicholas Temperley

Pinto's extant compositions encompass seven piano sonatas along with additional piano works, four sonatas for violin and piano, nine duets for two unaccompanied violins, and sixteen songs. It is also believed that he composed at least one violin concerto, which has since been lost. Aside from a single autograph fragment and one contemporary manuscript copy, the primary sources for this music are early 19th-century editions.

The Sonata in E flat minor, transcribed and edited by Nicholas Temperley, is the first of two piano sonatas published as Op. 3, likely in 1803, and certainly no later than July of that year when they were reviewed in the Monthly Magazine. Thus, it is evident that Pinto was no older than seventeen years when he composed these works.
