Description

The Liederkreis op. 39, first published in 1842, remains one of Schumann's most renowned song cycles, not solely due to the famous "Mondnacht". Eight years later, Schumann revised the work for a new edition, replacing the opening piece "Der frohe Wandersmann" with "In der Fremde". The Henle Urtext edition presents both versions in full, allowing for an insightful study of Schumann's later refinements. Complementing the original high voice edition (HN 550) are medium and low voice versions, expertly transposed by the experienced song accompanist Gerold Huber.
