Description

It is nearly impossible to discern from listening that Bach's highly acclaimed concerti for harpsichord were likely his own adaptations of solo concerti originally composed for either violin or a woodwind instrument. While the original works are often unidentified, this is not the case for the D major Concerto BWV 1054, which was arranged in 1738 from the E major Violin Concerto BWV 1042. Once again, Bach demonstrates his ability to create a brilliant and idiomatic keyboard composition from the violin part. This concerto, notable for its lively and cheerful outer movements, stands out as one of the highlights of Bach's extensive body of work. The piano reduction includes the solo part along with a highly accessible piano arrangement prepared by Johannes Umbreit for practical application.
