Bosmans: Cello Sonata (with piano)

RM 126.00

Description

The spotlight is on Henriëtte Bosmans! The Sonata for cello and piano, composed in 1919 by the Dutch composer and pianist, is truly a remarkable find: it features vibrant and lyrical music characteristic of the late Romantic era. Both the cello and piano are showcased beautifully; it is likely that cellist Marix Loevensohn inspired the solo section. Unfortunately, Bosmans faced a tragic fate; as a Jewish woman, she was forced out of her profession and personally targeted by the National Socialists. This Urtext edition of the sonata corrects numerous mistakes found in the original edition published in 1919 for the first time. The edition, produced by G. Henle Publishers, was created in partnership with cellist Raphaela Gromes and pianist Julian Riem, who also recorded this sonata and share their fingerings in this edition. Additionally, the preface by Bosmans expert Helen H. Metzelaar provides a wealth of intriguing information about the composer and her works.
